Cook in the Book is a unique anthology that blends storytelling and cooking. We’re seeking fictional stories where the recipe is part of the narrative itself. The food should matter.
🥄 WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Short stories where a recipe is woven into the story
- The recipe must appear naturally within the narrative
- Characters cooking
- Instructions revealed through action or memory
- Ingredients tied to emotion, tradition, or plot
- Recipe must be written out and list at the end of the story.
- Any genre welcome:
- Contemporary
- Romance
- Horror
- Fantasy
- Speculative
- Cozy, dark, or heartfelt
- Please no erotica
- Food can be comforting, chaotic, magical, or meaningful
Think: a story you can read and cook from.
📝 SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Word Count: 3,500–8,000 words
- Recipe Requirement:
- Must be fully usable
- Must be integrated into the story
- Original, unpublished work, or message me if you have one already published case by case approval.
PAYMENT & RIGHTS
- Contributors will receive payment($40 USD) and a contributor copy
- Rights requested: First publication rights (rights revert to the author after publication per contract)

Everyone deserves a vacation, a chance to relax, a chance to make memories.
But sometimes the perfect vacation can becomes a nightmare.
Outsider Publishing Company is looking for horror stories about vacations gone wrong.
We want stories about checking in to hotels, but you can’t leave. Cruise ships heading to an uncharted island or the Be rmuda triangle. Making the wrong turn at Albuquerque. Maybe you have some uninvited guess at your Air BNB. There are so many fun twist we can’t wait to hear from you.
What we are looking for:
- Road Trips that take deadly turns
- Terrifying camping trips
- Ghost and haunting
- Murder or attempted murder (please no graphic killing of children)
- Supernatural creatures and spells
- something scary
We want you to make us afraid to book our next vacation.
Your story can take place anywhere-realistic or supernatural, modern or historical, familiar or otherworldly.
The only requirement… Keep it scary

We are looking for powerful, moving, and inspiring stories that:

- Share the journeys of those forced from their homelands who find peace, safety, and hope in the U.S.
- Explore the resilience, courage, and dreams of individuals building a new life.
